mutations-order

HURDLE NUMBER 27. THE ORDER OF MUTATIONS HURDLE.

If mutations were to occur in the wrong order, evolution could not occur. For example:- Suppose that (by mutations) an eye could evolve, but this happens before mutations have evolved the eye socket, then the whole process will have been in vain.

Here is a quote from the book Evolution of Living Organisms by Pierre P. Grasse (of Universite de Paris, Laboratoire d’Evolution des Etres Organises), published by Academic Press, 1977, page 160.

“Orthoselection - - - - - is impossible, since it can only function provided that the mutations occur in a certain order, which they never do.”
